On October 30, 2000, the New Jersey Department
of Environmental Protection contracted with the North Jersey
District Water Supply Commission (NJDWSC) to function as
its lead entity to administer the watershed management and
planning process. The Commission will work in collaboration
with a consortium of partners representing interests in
each WMA.
The Passaic River Basin Consortium
consists of the following representatives:
Passaic River Coalition (an environmental advocacy
group)
Passaic River Basin Alliance (an industry-advocacy
group representing dischargers)
Passaic Valley Water Commission (a major water
supply purveyor)
Palisades Interstate Parks Commission (a quasi-governmental
agency serving as an advocate for open space acquisition
and preservation). [www.pipc.org] |
The Consortium will work as a management
committee to assist NJDWSC in making decisions relating
to administration of watershed planning and management processes.
NJDWSC seeks and encourages a wide variety
of stakeholders to participate in the project, including
watershed associations, water purveyors, agricultural interests,
environmental organizations, businesses, municipal and industrial
dischargers, local and county governments and concerned
citizens.
