PRBWMP News/Updates -- July 26, 2002
Dear Stakeholders:
As you know, since October 30, 2000,
the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission ("Commission")
has taken the lead in the creation of a Watershed Management
Area ("WMA") Plan for the Passaic River Basin (WMAs 3, 4
and 6). During that time, the Commission has worked in collaboration
with the State Department of Environmental Protection ("DEP"),
the various public advisory committees and representatives
of the Passaic River Basin Consortium and other stakeholders
to identify, develop, manage and refine ideas to better
the watershed administration, planning and management process.
We are very grateful to all of you who have worked so hard
and contributed so much time and knowledge in this effort.
We have now been advised by the DEP
that it wishes to assume the lead role in the planning process
in WMAs 3, 4 and 6. We are advising you, the stakeholders,
of DEP's enhanced role in the process to ensure a smooth
transition and to promote the attainment of our mutual goals
of a collaborative, productive watershed management process.
Please be assured that the Commission
will continue as an active, vital participant in the process
in cooperation with DEP, on its own behalf and on behalf
of the constituents of the Passaic River Basin
